LEO MERES, CML
I was born in 1964 on a farm in upstate New York.  I am the youngest of 9 children, and moved to Daytona Beach Florida with my parents in 1978.  My Dad started Bill's Locksmith in 1973 in New York, and we moved it with us and started all over as a team.  At the age of 14 I started an apprenticeship and was sent to various shops around the state to train with some great locksmiths and safe technicians.  Except for a brief stint in the Army, and a few part time jobs while in school, locksmithing is the only job I have ever known.  I bought the business from my parents in 1987 and have been going back an forth between building it up and scratching out a living ever since.  When the ALOA introduced the PRP program I chose not to be grandfathered in even though I qualified.  It took me many years to pass the CML, which I was able to finally do in 2005.  When I took over in 1987 it was just the 3 of us, my Mother in the shop, and my Dad and I on the road.  Now I am running 6 vans with a staff of 9.  I also now have 3 beautiful daughters who I hope one day will take the reins and keep the family business going for the next generation.

DON DENNIS, CPL

Don Dennis began his locksmithing career in 1971 with a correspondence course while still serving in the U.S Air Force.  This study continued with part-time work in a parking lot kiosk in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Upon completion of his military duty, he started an apprenticeship through the State of New Mexico with employment at Cooley's Safe & Lock while still living in Albuquerque.  Completing the apprenticeship, he moved to Johnson City, TN where he opened his own mobile service as Dennis Safe & Lock in 1977.  The mobile service continued as he added a shop facility with employees to enhance his locksmithing efforts.  He organized the East Tennessee Locksmith Association in 1988.  While working in all facets of locksmithing, he specialized in master keying and safe work.  His writing efforts began with articles in Keynotes Magazine in late 1988.  The writing continued with articles also appearing in The Locksmith Ledger and The National Locksmith.  In late 2006 and into 2007 he accepted a gubernatorial appointment by the State of Tennessee to participate on the Locksmith Advisory Committee in the formation of rules for implementing the State's 2006 Locksmithing Law.  In 2005, the idea of a new publication came into being with the start of The Independent Locksmith Journal through the support of Peterson Manufacturing.  He closed his active locksmithing career at the end of 2007 and is now the editor of The Independent Locksmith Journal.
